The Ghost Story Society was a not-for-profit literary society whose members shared an interest in supernatural fiction. Founded in Britain in 1988 by Rosemary Pardoe, Jeffrey Dempsey, David Cowperthwaite and Mark Valentine, it had an international membership and was later administered by joint organizers Christopher Roden and Barbara Roden, owners of Ash-Tree Press, with the assistance of David G. Rowlands, Richard Dalby, Jan Arter, and Roger Dobson. It has not been active since 2007.
All Hallows was the twice-yearly journal of The Ghost Story Society edited by Barbara and Christopher Roden. Total 43 isues were released with last one released in Summer 2007.
Each issue of the journal offered a mixture of items dealing with all aspects of the ghost story world. In addition to articles dealing with authors such as M. R. James, E. F. Benson, Amyas Northcote, Eleanor Scott, Elizabeth Jane Howard, H. G. Wells, August Derleth, Robert Aickman, Walter de la Mare, and other practitioners of the genre, there was a substantial review section dealing with new publications in the field; a News and Notes section covering recent developments in the genre; a Film News and Notes section; articles about obscure and/or overlooked authors; Haunted Cinema, a regular feature looking at classic supernatural films; 'Ramsey Campbell, Probably'; and letters and queries from the members.
All Hallows was also the Society's primary forum for new supernatural fiction, with an average of seven stories appearing in each issue. These were new stories and not reprints of previously used material. The authors who contributed were Simon Clark, A. F. Kidd, Terry Lamsley, Steve Rasnic Tem, Ron Weighell, Steve Duffy, Don Tumasonis, Paul Finch, Christopher Harman, Simon Bestwick, and John Whitbourn. Many stories have received an Honourable Mention in The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror volumes edited by Ellen Datlow and others.
